Introducing Unified Checkers: Better Resilience, Simpler Configuration
What's New
We've introduced a new type of source called Unified Checkers that consolidates similar or redundant data sources behind a single access point. Unified Checkers provide a source-agnostic way to utilize the best source within a data category as the primary source, simplifying decisions around which source to use, and streamlines fallback if that source experiences performance issue (which even the best do!).
This release introduces Unified Checkers for two types of PII data used in identity workflows:
- Authoritative Databases (e.g., credit bureaus)
- Phone Registration (e.g., phone carriers)
These are the first two categories to use this architecture. Additional Unified Checkers covering the rest of our identity, risk, and possession sources are in development.
If you have unique requirements or need signals that are only available from a specific individual source, direct access to those sources is still available.
Why It Matters
Previously, PII checks were tied to a single data source. That meant that if that source experienced an outage or data quality was insufficient, configuring fallback and mapping the related data across sources was a manual process. It also meant that if you wanted to take advantage of a new source we introduced in that category, you'd have to make changes to your workflow configurations. Unified Checkers streamline this – consolidating individual source routing and fallback behind a single unified source for higher availability and more consistent results.
What You Need to Know
- There are no changes to any sources currently used by production customers – if you want to use a Unified Checker in any of your workflows, you'll need to swap out your individual authoritative database/phone registration source for the Unified Checker
- Acquired attributes from individual underlying data sources remain accessible for customers who need source-specific signals
